My Taonga My special treasure was given to my family when my grandpa was still alive. It is hung on a skinny old silver nail near the kitchen. When the sun gleams on it,it is shiny because it has been varnished. I don’t know how old it is but I do know that we have had it in our family for a very long time. It has small black rope attached to it so you can wear it. When I wear it,it feels like my grandpa is here. Even when I look at it,it reminds me of him. I think that this is very special because my grandpa is no longer here. He died on the 18th of December in 2004 and is now buried in Manukau memorial centre. The treasure is made of wood,it has the Niuean greeting on it and another word in Niuean, meaning good luck. I miss my grandpa so much and I think that if he had not left it I don’t think I would be writing this story now. I will treasure this for as long as I live until I have children. When they are adults I will give it to them to treasure and look after until they have children.
